ELINA BROTHERUS’UN “MÜJDE” FOTOĞRAF SERİSİ ÜZERİNE BİR İNCELEME

Elina Brotherus, 2009- 2013 yılları arasında Müjde / Annonciation isimli bir fotoğraf serisi çekmiştir. Sanatçı sanat tarihinde sıkça rastlanan Meryem’e Müjde resimleriyle ilişkilendirdiği fotoğraflarıyla, toplumda konuşulması olağan olmayan bir konuyu ele alarak, bu yıllar içinde gördüğü kısırlık tedavisinin hikâyesini, kendine özgü yalın ve estetik açıdan sanat tarihinden beslenen dili ile anlatır. Makalede seriden bazı fotoğraflar ve sıkça yinelenen temalar incelenmiş, kimi zaman sanatçının geçmiş çalışmaları, kimi zaman farklı sanatçıların benzer konuya yaklaşımlarıyla kıyaslama yapma yöntemiyle, sanatçının hikâyeci ve özgün estetik dili ile ilgili ipuçları ortaya serilmeye çalışılmıştır.

A SURVEY ON ELINA BROTHERUS’ “ANNONCIATION” PHOTOGRAPHY SERIES

Elina Brotherus shot a series of photographs named as Annunciation /Annonciation between 2009-2013. The artist, who has associated her compositions with the familiar Annunciation paintings in art history, creates her photographs around a usually unspoken subject. With the series, she tells her own story, in her modest and refined esthetic language that is clearly nourished by art history, about the infertility treatment she has received during those years. With this paper some photographs from the series and some repeating themes are analyzed by comparisons to artist’s earlier works or some historical and contemporary works by other artists to reveal some clues about Elina Brotherus’ unique esthetic language and her story telling style.
