STERNBERG’S THEORY OF SUCCESSFUL INTELLIGENCE
Purpose of this study was to help individuals who are working on education and getting education to reach new information about cognitive processes and to provide discussing “ Theory of Successful İntelligence” known as Sternberg’s triple intelligence theory in a broad range. For this purpose, in this article, mainly Sternberg’s article related to “Successful İntelligence” was evaluated and besides, literature review related to intelligence theories was analysed in different perspectives. In this study, all theories were investigated in general; Sternberg’s theory of successful intelligence was examined comprehensively and it was contextualized with arguments and theories on intelligence. This study is composed of two main parts. In the first part of this study, there is a brief evaluation about the nature of intelligence and intelligence theories. In the latter part, Sternberg’s “Successful İntelligence” was introduced by using Sternberg’s own articles. According to Sternberg's Theory of Successful Intelligence; people are strong in one or more kinds of intelligence; these are creative, analytical and practical intelligences. Successful Intelligence is our skill to be aware of the types of intelligence we are capable of and to lead to areas where we can use these intelligence types. As a result, we advise educators and parents to try to understand Stenberg's Theory of Successful Intelligence instead of following classical intelligence and taking care of children's intelligence. We do not find it sufficient to see intelligence as only academic and abstract skills. We also suggest that intelligence should be seen as an advanced level of transfer of knowledge, a new orientation in the cognitive field, and the capacity to transform knowledge into new knowledge through creation and production. In this direction, we want you to pay attention to the fact that some information is internalized instead of memorizing.
