THE ROLE OF SUPERVISING IN PREPARING UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS TO UNDERTAKE POSTGRADUATE EDUCATION AT CUKUROVA UNIVERSITY

Advancement of education is increasingly becoming a determinant for promotion, or acquisition of management positions in employment organizations. Due to an increase in the number of graduates who join the labor market, there is a demand for increased skill, expertise and experience, which postgraduate studies offer. The research analyses the impact of supervising on motivating undergraduate students to undertake postgraduate education, either through a second degree, a master’s degree or doctoral degree. This study investigated the impact of career supervising on the advancement of education, at Cukurova University, in preparing undergraduate students to further their studies through postgraduate degrees. Through the use of questionnaires, the researcher collected data from both undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University. The approach used to analyze the data was the qualitative-descriptive method and content analysis. The research results revealed that supervising of undergraduate students is crucial to the advancement of education, which is essential for the labor market and self-actualization. According to the findings, 72% of undergraduate students lack clarity on vocational training in postgraduate studies, thereby affecting their ability to make decisions regarding the advancement of education. Of the 50 respondents of the study, 45 indicated that there was a lack of efficient supervising programs to prepare learners for postgraduate education. Furthermore, 90% of students noted that there was insufficient information provided through supervising at the undergraduate level on the various approaches of advancement of education after undergraduate training. In the research, 82% of the students revealed that they perceived graduate studies as stressful. The respondents were asked to relay their perspectives on the necessity of postgraduate education on self-actualization. The responses received entailed 100% positive feedback from postgraduate students, while only 56% of undergraduate learners believed that advancement of education was necessary.

Çalışmadaki 50 katılımcıdan 45’i öğrencilerin lisansüstü eğitime hazırlanmasını sağlayacak etkili danışmanlık programları konusunda bir eksiklik olduğunu belirtmişlerdir. Ayrıca, öğrencilerin %90’ı, lisans seviyesinde danışmanlık yoluyla sağlanan, lisans eğitiminden sonra eğitimin ilerletilmesinin çeşitli yöntemleri hakkındaki bilginin yetersiz olduğunu ifade etmiştir. Çalışmada, öğrencilerin %82’si lisansüstü eğitimi stresli buldukları söylemişlerdir. Katılımcılardan, lisansüstü eğitimin kendini gerçekleştime için gerekliliği hakkındaki görüşlerini ifade etmeleri istenmiştir; alınan cevaplara göre, lisans eğitimi alan öğrencilerin %56’sı eğitimin ilerletilmesinin gerekli olduğuna inanırken, lisansüstü öğrenciler %100 pozitif geribildirimde bulunmuşlardır.
