IS IT MAKING SPACE TO AGNOSTICISM IN EPISTEMOLOGICAL CONTEXT?
In this study, the position of agnosticism is examined. Agnosticism, which is defined as a distant attitude towards religions and God together with atheism, can be used to point out the impossibility of obtaining rational and scientific information about the future and the invisible world in the epistemological context. We can also describe agnosticism as the attitude that some things cannot be known by the human mind. Weak agnosticism is not convincing evidence of the existence or absence of God, but it is emphasized that in strong agnosticism this evidence can never be obtained. Considering many different thinkers in different positions between the weak and strong poles of agnostic attitude, especially Thomas Huxley and Antony Kenny, a position discussion with ontological and epistemological reflections is encountered. After that, some theists and atheists argue that agnosticism cannot be considered as a particular attitude. As a result, this situation led to the problem of where agnosticism should be located. Indeed, Scot D. Yoder suggests that the primary problem as agnostic is to determine a position of agnosticism. Therefore, in this study, we first discuss what agnosticism refers to in the frame of semantic framework and then determine whether or not agnosticism can be determined in the context of its relationship with different attitudes. At the same time, a different agnostic framework is tried to be taken into account by taking the religious identity into account.
