NVESTIGATION OF DESPAIR LEVELS OF FAMILIES WITH DOWN SYNDROME CHILD AND THEIR PARENTAL ATTITUDES ON PERCEPTION AND COPING WITH STRESS (CITY OF ADIYAMAN EXAMPLE)

This study has been carried out in Adiyaman, Turkey with a group of families, who have children with down syndrome (CDS), to investigate the despair levels of families and their parental attitudes on perception and coping with stress in August-October 2018. The population of the study consists from parents of 148 CDS who live in Adiyaman/Turkey. The sample group includes 82 volunteer fathers and mothers. Data has been collected by survey methodology. The survey has 4 stages. The first stage includes five specifications which aim to detect the demographical information. Second stage is “Perceived Stress Scale (PSS)”, third stage is “Overcoming the Stress Method Scale (OSMS)” and the last stage is “Despair Scale (DS)”. The obtained data have been summarized by frequency analysis, SPSS 15 suit of program was used to analyze the data. As the education level increases, the despair level decreases. The samples who have graduated from primary school or high school have low despair level but the samples who have graduated from university still have hope. When the income considered there is no difference at the perceived stress. But the despair level increases as the income decreases. It has been concluded that as the monthly income increases the self-confidence approach increases. The parents who have consanguinity marriage are more desperate. It has been concluded that stress perceived by mothers who have CDS is higher than fathers.

DOWN SENDROMU ÇOCUĞA SAHİP AİLELERİN UMUTSUZLUK DÜZEYLERİ, ALGILADIKLARI STRES VE STRESLE BAŞ ETME TUTUMLARININ İNCELENMESİ (ADIYAMAN İLİ ÖRNEĞİ)

Yapılan araştırmada Adıyaman’da yaşayan down sendromlu çocukları olan ailelerin umutsuzluk düzeyi, algıladıkları stres ve stresle baş etme tutumlarını belirlemek amacıyla 2018 yılı Ağustos-Eylül-Ekim aylarında Adıyaman ilinde yaşayan down sendromlu çocukları olan anne ve babalara uygulanmıştır. Çalışmanın evrenini Adıyaman’da yaşayan 148 down sendromlu çocukları olan anne ve babalar oluşturmaktadır. Örneklem grubu gönüllülük esasına göre down sendromlu çocukları olan anne ve babaların katılımıyla 82 kişiden oluşmuştur. Çalışmada veri toplama aracı olarak anket yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Uygulanan anket dört bölümden oluşmaktadır. Birinci bölümde katılımcıların demografik bilgilerini belirlemeye yönelik 5 madde yer almıştır. Anketin ikinci bölümünde “Algılanan Stres Ölçeği”, üçüncü bölümünde “Stresle Başa Çıkma Tarzları Ölçeği” ve son bölümde “Umutsuzluk” Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Anket sonucu elde edilen veriler frekans analizi ile özetlenmiş olup, verilerin çözümlenmesinde istatistik paket programlarından SPSS 15 paket programı kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgulara göre Down sendromlu çocukları olan ailelerin Eğitim seviyesi arttıkça umutsuzluk seviyesinin azaldığı görülmektedir. İlkokul veya liseden mezun olan ebveynlerin umutsuzluk düzeyi düşüktür, ancak üniversiteden mezun olan ebeveynlerin hala ümitleri vardır. Gelir açısından düşünüldüğünde, algılanan stresde bir fark yoktur. Fakat gelir azaldıkça çaresizlik seviyesi artmaktadır. Aylık gelir arttıkça özgüven yaklaşımının arttığı sonucuna varılmıştır. Akraba evliliği olan ebeveynlerin daha umutsuz olduğu görülmektedir. Down sendromlu çocukları olan annelerin, babalara göre algıladıkları stres düzeyi daha yüksek bulunmuştur.
