Investigation of the Relationship between the Psychological Resilience of Children aged 5-6 yearsMindfulness in Parenting and Father-Child Relationship

The aim of this study is to analyze the correlation between Father-Child relationship and psychological resilience of children in early childhood and also the correlation between father-child relationship and Mindfulness in Parenting levels of fathers. In addition, we also analyzed the correlation between fathers’ demographic characteristics and their relationship with their children, their psychological resilience, as well as fathers’ Mindfulness levels in Parenting. The research was conducted with correlational survey method which is one of screening research models. Fathers with children of age 5-6 participated in the study. Data were collected between March and June 2019. “Father-child relationship scale”, “Social and Emotional Well Being and Psychological Resilience Scale for Preschool Children” and “Mindful Attention Awareness Scale in Parenthood” and personal information form were used to collect data. Normal distribution of data was analyzed with Shapiro-Wilk test. Descriptive statistics were expressed with mean and standard deviation or median (minimum-maximum) for quantitative data and with frequency and percentage for qualitative data. T-test was used for comparison of two groups with normal distribution. Correlation between variables was analyzed with Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficient. Stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed in the analysis of variables impacting PERIK scale. As a result of this study, a strong correlation was found between fathers’ age, educational background, weekend working states and psychological resiliencies of their children. When father-child relationship and children’s psychological resiliencies were analyzed, it was concluded that it was associated with only father-child attachment level. It was also found out that number of children, daily working hours and SES had no effect. Beside this, it was observed that, Mindfulness in Parenting levels of the participant fathers which they applied on their children as parenting attitude were influenced by their educational status, age of children and weekend working status but duration of their marriages, number of their children, gender of the children, daily working time and SES had no impact.
