AFETE HAZIRLIK: KONTROL ODAĞI VE GENEL AFET HAZIRLIK İNANIŞI İLİŞKİSİ ÜZERİNE BİR ARAŞTIRMA

Afetler fiziksel, ekonomik ve sosyal kayıplar doğuran, yaşamı durduran ya da kesintiye uğratan, insanların baş etme kapasitesinin sınırlı olduğu doğa veya insan kaynaklı olaylar olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Afetlerle mücadeleye önemli miktarlarda kaynak ayrılmasına rağmen afetlere hazırlık düzeyi yetersiz kalmaktadır. Bu nokta, afetlere hazırlıklı olma durumunu afet yönetim süreçlerinin en kritik bileşenlerinden biri haline getirmektedir. Bu çalışma, bireylerin afetlere hazırlıklı olmaları ve önlem alabilmeleri bağlamında kontrol odağı kavramını merkeze almaktadır. Araştırmada katılımcıların sosyo-demografik özellikleri ve Rotter’in İçDış Kontrol Odağı Ölçeğine göre kontrol odağı belirlenerek bunların Genel Afet Hazırlık İnanç Ölçeğinin altı boyutu ile ilişkileri analiz edilmiştir. Bulgular, eğitim, yaş, meslek grubu ve meslek deneyiminin afete hazırlık bağlamında anlamlı farklılıklar sergilediğini göstermektedir. Regresyon analizi, iç kontrol odağının Genel Afet Hazırlık İnancı boyutları içinde algılanan engeller üzerinde negatif, öz yeterlik üzerinde pozitif bir etkide bulunduğunu ortaya koymaktadır.

DISASTER PREPAREDNESS: A RESEARCH ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LOCUS OF CONTROL AND GENERAL DISASTER PREPAREDNESS BELIEF

Disasters are defined as natural or man-made events that cause physical, economic and social losses, stop or interrupt life, and allow limited coping capacity. Despite considerable resources allocated to disaster management systems, levels of preparedness for disasters remains inadequate. This fact makes disaster preparedness as one of the most critical components of disaster management processes. This study focuses on the concept of locus of control in the context of individuals’ disaster preparedness beliefs. In the research, the socio-demographic characteristics of the participants and the locus of control according to Rotter’s Internal-External Locus of Control Scale were determined and their relations with the six dimensions of General Disaster Preparedness Belief Scale were analyzed. Findings show that education, age, occupation and tenure show significant differences in the context of disaster preparedness. Regression analysis reveals that internal locus of control has a negative effect on perceived barriers and a positive effect on self-efficacy of General Disaster Preparedness Belief.
