SİNOP MÜZESİ ERKEN BİZANS DÖNEMİ CAM KANDİLLERİ

Çalışma kapsamında Sinop Müzesi envanterinde yer alan 28 adet cam kandil değerlendirmeye alınmıştır.1 Yüzey buluntusu olarak envantere alınmış olan eserler, Karadeniz’de balıkçılar tarafından bir amphora içinde bulunmuştur. Çalışma için bu eser gurubunun seçilmiş olmasının temel nedeni, birçok müzenin envanterinde bulunan bu eserlerin, müze kayıtlarında bardak, kadeh veya silindirik kap gibi çok farklı şekillerde ve çoğunlukla yanlış bir şekilde tanımlanmış olmasıdır. Bunun en büyük sebeplerinden biri, Bizans Dönemine ait camlarla ilgili çalışmalarda ele geçen buluntuların çoğunlukla sağlam olarak ele geçmemiş olması ve işlevleriyle ilgili yorumların yetersizliğidir. Bunun sonucunda birçok yayında aynı form ve işlevdeki eserler farklı isimlerle karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Bunlar beraberinde tarihlendirme sorununu da ortaya çıkarmaktadır. Bu çalışmayla bu tip cam eserlerin doğru bir şekilde tanımlanmasına katkı sağlanması hedeflenmiştir. Eserlerin arkeometrik çalışması yapılmamış olup, yöntem olarak tipolojik karşılaştırma yoluna gidilmiş ve benzer örneklerden yola çıkılarak dönemleri saptanmaya çalışılmıştır.

Sinop Museum Glass Oil Lamps from Early Byzantium

In the study 28 glass oil lamps in the collection of the Museum of Sinop are investigated. The artefacts recorded as surface finds in the collection were found by fishermen in the Black Sea in an amphora. The reason why these artefacts are chosen for the current study is because, even though they are existent in the collections of several museums, they are mostly recorded wrongly as glass, pot, cylindrical vessels in the collections. This results mainly from the fact that glass discoveries from the Byzantium Period are mostly not found intact, and that interpretations as to their functions are insufficient. As a result, in several studies the artefacts with the same form and function are named differently. This study aims to contibute to correct definition of glass artefacts of this type. The study lacks archeometric analysis of the artefacts, instead methodologically it follows a typological comparison and detects the period of the artefacts using similar samples.
