Bu araştırmada 1998 ve 2004 yılları öğretim programlarına göre yazılmış Hayat Bilgisi ve Sosyal Bilgiler ders kitaplarında sosyal olay ve değerlerin nasıl sunulduğu karşılaştırılarakincelenmiştir. Bu amacı gerçekleştirmek için iki farklı öğretim programı temel alınarak basılan Hayat Bilgisi ve Sosyal Bilgiler ders kitapları araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma yapı itibarıyla nitel bir araştırma olup, doküman incelemesi yapılmıştır. İki farklı öğrenme anlayışı temelinde yazılan ders kitaplarındaki sosyal olay, durum, sorun ve değerlerin öğrencilere sunuluş retorikleri karşılaştırılmıştır. Bu konuların sunum biçimleri ders kitaplarından alınan örnekler eşliğinde somutlaştırılmıştır. Bu örnekler göstermiştir ki, bu iki farklı öğretim anlayışına göre yazılmış ders kitaplarındaki sosyal olay ve değerlerin sunumu arasında oldukça büyük farklar vardır.

In this research, social studies textbooks written in the line of 1998 and 2004 curriculawere compared and evaluated from the point of view of the presentation of social issuesand values. To this end, a range of social studies textbooks were selected for examination.Some of these were designed based on 1998 curriculum whilst the other grounded upon2004 curriculum. The study involved qualitative research methods which could be definedas documentary analysis/content analysis. The textbooks reflecting two different learningapproaches were analysed regarding rhetoric used to present the social issues and values.The ways in which social issues and values presented were exemplified via excerpts takenfrom the two groups of textbooks. The findings indicated that textbooks written accordingto1998 curriculum is quite different from those written according to 2004 curriculumconcerning in this matter.Key words: Social studies teaching, social events, social values, constructivism, behaviourism
