THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN STRATEGIC FLEXIBILITY AND STRATEGIC POSTURE: A RESEARCH IN AFYONKARAHİSAR MARBLE INDUSTRY

The ability of businesses to protect their entities depends on their compliance with environmental conditions. Nowaday, the continuity and non-linearity of change refer to flexibility for adaptation. Businesses may prefer a reactive, defensive, analyst or pioneering strategic stance depending on the environment and resource analysis as categorized by Miles and Snow. Although some strategic postures are suggested to be more prone to change than others, the exposure of the relationship between strategic levels of flexibility and strategic posture may provide insight into which strategic posture can influence, strategic flexibility or, conversely, affect the flexibility levels of businesses that prefer specific strategic postures In this study, it is assumed that strategic flexibility is effective on decision about the strategic stance of the enterprises. Strategic flexibility in this framework has been considered as an operational-specific skill that guides the strategy. In order to reveal the relationship between strategic flexibility ability and strategic posture, a survey make investigation on marble firms operate in Afyonkarahisar and export to several countries. The findings of the study show that there is a positive and meaningful relationship between the strategic flexibility capabilities of enterprises and their strategic posture.
