An Investigation into the Studies Related to Supporting Early Literacy Skills at Home
The current study was carried out to investigate the studies related to supporting early literacy skills at home. In the collection of the data for the study, document investigation which is considered as a qualitative research method was used. Concerning document investigation method, related literature was reviewed and the doctorate thesis carried out in 2016 and afterwards with a scientific quality over early literacy skills at home both at home and abroad were accepted as a document. With the analysis of the theses within the content of the research, supporting early literacy skills at home was investigated under the heading of “parent involvement and parent modelling” and content analysis was conducted. It was found that the documents were realized with the programs having a supportive feature for parent education and involvement depending on the “parent active involvement” dimension, the factors of interactive book reading to obtain active involvement were studied, particularly the relation between verbal language skills within active involvement literacy skills was mentioned and that the activities at this dimension were mostly carried out with mothers. In terms of “parent modelling” dimension, the studies were carried out on socio-economic level, culture and faith factors rather than parentbased variables. In addition, upon the review of the descriptive statistics used in the distribution depending on the methods and themes, it was found that the studies carried out in this field were more abroad compared to the domestic studies; all the studies were carried out in 2016; even though qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods were frequently used in the studies, qualitative one was dominantly used; in terms of themes, a great majority of the studies were carried out at the dimension of parent involvement.
