Prevention and treatment of obesity in children

The increase in childhood obesity in the last two decades all over the world has rendered primary and secondary measures necessary because obesity results in a variety of short and long term health problems and reduces life quality. The treatment or prevention of obesity is only possible by recognition of excessive weight gain, defining the underlying risk factors and keeping it in the spotlight. The secondary measure is treating obesity, which unfortunately has not yielded positive results so far. Therefore, in recent years, establishment of primary measures in many countries in the leadership of World Health Organization have gained more importance. Primary measures aim to prevent obesity by having a more active life style through healthy eating and physical activity habits. In this article, the issues of preventing is and treating childhood obesity have been discussed.
