Dikkat eksikliği hiperaktivite bozukluğu olan ergen ve genç erişkinlerin mizaç ve karakter özellikleri

Amaç: Mizaç ve karakter sosyal davranışlarının gelişiminde merkezi bir rol oynar. Farklı mizaç ve karakter boyut- larının çocuk ve ergenlerde gelişimsel psikopatolojilerle ilişkili olduğu gösterilmiştir. Mizaç ve karakter ile dikkat eksikliği hiperaktivite bozukluğu (DEHB) arasında karmaşık ve çok yönlü bir ilişki olduğu ileri sürülmektedir. Bu çalışmada Türk örnekleminde gelişimsel bir psikopatoloji olan DEHB‟nin ergen ve genç erişkinlik döneminde mizaç ve karakter özellikleriyle ilişkisinin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Çalışmaya DEHB‟li 17-22 yaş aralığında 37 ergen ve genç erişkin alınmıştır. Kontrol grubu herhangi bir psikiyatrik bozukluğu olmayan sağlıklı bireylerden oluşmaktadır. Hastalar tanıya yönelik görüşme sonrasında Mizaç ve Karakter Ölçeği (MKÖ) ile değer- lendirilmiştir. Bulgular: DEHB grubunda istatistiksel açıdan anlamlı olarak yenilik arayışı puanları daha yüksek; sebat etme, kendini yönetme puanları, işbirliği yapma ve kendini aşma puanları daha düşük olarak bulunmuştur. Zarardan kaçınma puanlarında belirsizlik korkusu puanları dışında istatistiksel açıdan fark saptanmamıştır. Tartışma: Bu çalışmada DEHB‟li bireylerde saptanan yüksek yenilik arayışı mizaç özelliği yönündeki bulgu erişkin literatür bilgisiyle uyumludur. Düşük sebat etme, düşük kendini yönetme ve düşük işbirliği yapma özellikleri ise çocuk ve ergenlerde yapılan çalışma bulguları ile örtüşmektedir. Bu bulgular belirli mizaç ve karakter özelliklerinin DEHB ile karşılıklı etkileşim halinde olduğunu destekler niteliktedir.

Temperament and character dimensions of adolescents and young adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder

Objective: Temperament and character is central to social behavioral development. It has been shown that various temperament and character dimensions are related with developmental pathologies in children and adolescents. It has been suggested that there is a complex and multi-dimensional interaction between attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and temperament and character. In this study it was aimed to investigate the relationship of the ADHD, a developmental psychopathology, with temperament and character properties in adolescence and young adulthood in a Turkish sample. Methods: The study included 37 adolescents and young adults of 17-22 years of age with the diagnosis of ADHD. The control group consisted of healthy individuals with no psychiatric disorder. The patients were assessed with Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI) following the diagnosis-oriented interview. Results: ADHD group had significantly higher points for novelty seeking, and significantly lower points for persistence, self-directedness, cooperativeness, and self-transcendence. Harm avoidance points were not significantly different except for points for fear of uncertainty. Conclusion: The results of this study in the direction of a higher novelty seeking detected in individuals with ADHD supports the literature on adults. Lower persistence, self-directedness, and cooperativeness properties, on the other hand, are consistent with previous literature on children and adolescents. The results of this study support the notion that certain temperament and character properties interact with ADHD.
