Camel Milk and Its Importance in Diabetes Treatment

Camel milk, which has a bioactive peptide content in its rich composition, processability into fermented dairy products and particularly a low pH due to its high ascorbic acid content, has a higher stability and longer storage period than cow milk. Studies on camel milk with its unique characteristics have been increasing because of its supportive effects on human health. Camel milk with a high amount of insulin stands out due to its high-impact in reducing blood glucose in comparison to cow or buffalo milk. Especially, it is reported that consumption of camel milk in daily diet may support the treatment of diabetes, and its effect on this hyperglycemia is higher than the milk of other mammals. In this review, recent advances on camel milk as an alternative agent in the treatment of diabetes mellitus are presented.
