Virtual Reality and the Problem of Realizing a Person’s Creative Potential

The twenty-first century can already be considered the century of transition to a new digital era, which involves shifting the boundaries of human economic activity: physical labor will increasingly be performed by machines. The global quarantine in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic has become a vivid example of the practical necessity of this concept, and at the same time a kind of social experiment on the atomization of modern society. In this connection, the question arises of the philosophical interpretation of these events in the perspective of the fourth production revolution and in the context of the further evolution of man. Psychological theories of personality are based on axiomatic ideas about the nature of man, and these axioms can be polar among different researchers. In examining the phenomenon of personality, they are compelled to confine themselves to the narrow problem that this theory is called upon to solve. In this article, a historical and anthropological review of the phenomenon of personality and an analysis of its current state are made in the context of the increasing role of virtual reality as an environment and a means of realizing the creative potential of a person. At the same time, the article separates the concepts of “virtual reality” as a form of digital reality, acting as a medium and means of a person’s creative activity, and “virtual” as a type of human psychic and sensory reality.
