A case of low birth-weight infant with posthemorr-hagic hydrocephalus successfully treated with ventriculoperitoneal shunt operation
One of the most serious problem in preterm infants is intraventricular hemorrhage. Post hemorrhagic hydrocephalus is a major complication of intraventricular hemorrhage and is the leading cause of high morbidity and mortality rates. No consensus exists as to the ideal timing and method of treatment of post hemorrhagic hydrocephalus. Hereby we report, a female infant born at 31 weeks, weighing 1500 gram suffered from intraventricular hemorrhage and hydrocephalus after germinal matrix hemorrhage. Ventriculoperitoneal shunt implantation was performed. Ventriculoperitoneal shunt implantation surgery though the complications of infection or obtstruction, is still the most appropriate modality of treatment.
