Maternal characteristics and perinatal outcome of babies born with isolated congenital ichthyosis: 3 Years of experience in a medical center

Background: Our purpose was to determine the perinatal outcome and maternal characteristics of babies born with isolated congenital ichthyosis with special emphasis on maternal diseases and medications used for them and to determine our congenital ichthyosis rate. Material and Method: Single center retrospective/ prospective cross-sectional analysis of maternal characteristics and neonatal outcome variables of babies born with ichthyosis in Zekai Tahir Burak Women's Health Research and Education Hospital, Ankara, Turkey. Results: Our three year congenital ichthyosis rate was 1/10806. In 50% of congenital ichthyosis cases there was history of maternal drug intake. Conclusions: It must be kept in mind that; medical conditions of the mother especially autoimmune ones and medications used for them could lead to a variety of cutaneous side affects and possibly acquired ichthyosis of the newborn.
