Some physical and mechanical properties of cement bonded fiberboard exposed to accellerated aging

In this study, some mechanical and physical properties before and after accelerated aging tests of the cement bonded fiberboard made of using Calabrian pine fibers have been investigated. Effects of density, wood / cement ratio, and accelerator (%) used in manufacturing experimental boards have been also studied. Comprehensive sets of replicated physical and flexural test data were generated, and were analyzed statistically. The results obtained in this study were indicative of significant effects of accelerated aging on physical and flexural performance of cement bonded fiberboard. Increase of density and percent of accelerators used generally causes an increase in mechanical properties. Percent accelerator used also cause an increase in TS and WA. Increase of fiber / cement ratio resulted in an increase in MOR, TS, and WA while a significant decrease was observed for modulus of elasticity. Results indicate that fiber cement boards with Calabrian pine fibers are suitable for outdoor exposure conditions.
