BENLİK KURGULARI VE OTANTİKLİĞİN ÖZGECİLİK ÜZERİNDEKİ YORDAYICI GÜCÜNÜN İNCELENMESİ

Özgecilik, dışarıdan herhangi bir ödül veya ceza beklentisi olmaksızın başkalarının refahı için yapılan gönüllü ve istendik davranışlar olarak kavramlaştırılmaktadır (Chou, 1996). Tanımdan da anlaşıldığı gibi özgecilik; içsel motivasyon, otantiklik ve insanlara yakın olma eğilimi ile yakından ilişkilidir. Bu çalışmanın amacı benlik kurguları, otantiklik ve özgecilik arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektir. Araştırma yer alan katılımcılar 20-52 yaş aralığında ( = 33.5; S= 7.44) 104 kadın ve 116 erkek olmak üzere toplam 220 kişiden oluşmaktadır. Katılımcılar yardım derneklerinde gönüllü faaliyet gösteren ve herhangi bir faaliyet göstermeyen kişiler olarak iki guruptan oluşmaktadır. Verilerin toplanmasında Otantiklik Ölçeği, İlişkisel-Bireyci-Toplulukçu Benlik Ölçeği, Özgecilik Ölçeği ve Kişisel Bilgi Formu kullanılmıştır. Çalışma grubundan toplanan veriler SPSS 15.0 ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmanın alt problemlerini incelemek için t- testi, pearson momentler çarpımı korelasyonu ve aşamalı doğrusal regresyon analizi kullanılmıştır. t-testi bulguları, özgecilik puanlarının derneklerde gönüllü faaliyet gösterip göstermeme durumuna göre farklılaştığını göstermiştir. Diğer bir ifadeyle, dernekte gönüllü olarak çalışanlar, dernekte gönüllü olarak çalışmayanlara göre daha yüksek özgecilik puanına sahiptirler. Yapılan çoklu doğrusal regresyon analizi bulgularına göre bireyci benlik kurgusu ve otantik yaşam, özgeciliği anlamlı şekilde yordamıştır. Ancak modele toplulukçu benlik kurgusu girildiğinde otantiklik ve bireyci benlik kurgusunun özgecilik üzerindeki yordama güçleri anlamsızlaşmıştır. Sonuçlar alanyazın ve kuramlar açısından tartışılmış, çeşitli önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

AN INVESTIGATION OF PREDICTIVE ROLE OF SELFCONSTRUAL AND AUTHENTICITY ON ALTRUISM

Altruism has been conceptualized as voluntary, intentional behaviors motivated for the welfare of others that is not motivated by the expectation of external rewards or punishments (Chou, 1996). As understood from the definition, altruism is closely related to intrinsic motivation, authenticity, and tend to be close to the people. This study aimed to investigate the relationships between self-construal, authenticity, and altruism. It included 220 participants, 104 females and 116 males, aged 20-52 (XScale, the Relational Individual Collective Self-Aspects Scale, the Altruism Scales, and Personal Information Form were used to gather data. SPSS 15.0 statistics program was used for statistical analyses. ttest, Pearson product-moment correlation, and Hierarchic Multiple Regression analyses were conducted to examine the research questions. t-test results showed that participants’ altruism scores differentiated by their participation to voluntary work in charitable foundations. In other words, the participants who volunteered in charitable foundations had higher altruism scores than the participants who did not. According to the Hierarchic Multiple Regression analysis results, altruism was predicted by individualistic self-construal and authenticity. However, when collectivistic self-construal entered to the regression model, predictive power of individualistic self-construal and authentic living on altruism were not significant. The results were discussed in terms of literature and theory, and several suggestions were provided
