ANTEP AMERİKAN HASTANESİ VE BÖLGE HALKI ÜZERİNDEKİ ETKİSİ (1880-1920)

1810 yılında Amerika'da kurulan ABCFM (American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions) 1820 yılından sonra Osmanlı topraklarında da misyon çalıs?malarına bas?lamıs?tır. Bu misyon tes?kilatı din, eg?itim ve basın-yayın faaliyetlerinin yanı sıra sag?lık çalıs?malarıyla da Osmanlı cog?rafyasında etkinlik göstermis?tir. Amerikan Board tes?kilatının sag?lık çalıs?malarını yürüttüg?ü merkezlerden birisi de Antep olmus?tur. Misyonerler Antep'te Azariah Smith Memorial Hastanesi'ni kurarak hedefleri dog?rultusunda çalıs?malarını sürdürmüs?lerdir. Amerikan Board, Antep'teki sag?lık çalıs?malarını 1876 yılında kurulan bir dispanser etrafında sürdürmekteydi. Azariah Smith'in Yale Üniversitesi'nden sınıf arkadas?ları onun anısına bir hastane kurulması için bir fon olus?turarak bag?ıs? toplamaya bas?lamıs?lardı. 1879 yılında ins?aatına bas?lanan hastane 1880 yılında tamamlanmıs?tır. Hastane aynı zamanda Merkezi Türkiye Koleji Tıp Bölümü'nün de uygulama hastanesi olmus?tur. 1884 yılında 10 yatakla hizmet veren Azariah Smith Memorial Hastanesinde daha sonra kadın ve çocuk bölümlerinin eklenmesiyle sayı 42'yi bulmus?tur. Hastanede din, ırk ve cinsiyet ayrımı yapılmadan hizmet verilmis?tir. Hastanede tedavi edilen hastaların etnik dag?ılımı Türk, Ermeni, Kürt, Arap, Rum, Çerkez, Alman, Süryani ve Yahudi olarak verilmektedir. Dini dag?ılımı ise; Müslüman, Gregoryen, Protestan, Rum Katolik, Yahudi ve Mormon idi. Bu bildirinin konusunu Misyonerlik Faaliyetleri Çerçevesinde Antep Amerikan Hastanesi ve Bölge Halkı Üzerindeki Etkisi olus?turmaktadır. AINTAB AMERICAN HOSPITAL AND ITS EFFECT ON THE REGION PEOPLE (1880-1920)

ABCFM (American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions) which was founded in the USA in 1810 began its mission work in Ottoman lands after 1820. This mission organization showed its efficacy on health studies as well as religious, educational and media activities in the Ottoman geography. One of the centers that American Board organizations carried out health studies was Aintab. With the establishing Azariah Smith Memorial Hospital in Aintab missionaries continued to work in line with their targets. American Board was continuing of health studies in Aintab in a dispensary which was established in 1876. Azariah Smith's classmates at Yale University began creating a fund to collect donations for the establishment of a hospital in his memory. Hospital whose construction began in 1879 was completed in 1880. The hospital also has been the administration hospital of the Central Turkey College of Medicine Department. In Azariah Smith Memorial Hospital which was serving a 10bed in 1884 with the addition of women's and children's section the number later was found 42. In hospital services were provided without distinction of religion, race and gender. Ethnic distribution of patients which was treated in hospital were Turks, Armenians, Kurds, Arabs, Greeks, Circassians, German, Syrian and Jewish. The religious distribution were; Muslims, Gregorian, Protestant, Greek Catholic, Jewish and Mormon. The subject of this paper is Aintab American Hospital and its effect on the region people in the framework of missionary activity. In this context, American Board's activities will be discussed referring to the missionary activities, social and ethnic structure of the region. This study which includes the 1880-1920 date range was prepared utilizing archives, microfilm, annual reports and hospital catalog of the American Board. American Hospital in Aintab continues its works as Gaziantep American Hospital today. STRUCTURED ABSTRACT
