In Turkey Economy Analysis of the Relationship Between R & D Investment Expenditures, Patent, Industrial Design, Exports and Real Economic Growth

In this study, relationship between R & D investment expenditures, number of patents, industrial designs exports and real economic growth are analyzed in the period from 2000-2019 for Turkey. First in this study, ıt is applied Zivot-Andrews structural break test. Secondly, ıt is analyzed the existence of cointegration relationship between series by Engle-Granger cointegration test. Thirdly, the causality relationships between the series are tested, and for this, Engle Granger and Hatemi-J asymmetric causality test are used. In this study are estimated two different models. In the Engle Granger causality relationship made afterwards, the singletrack causality relationship from R&D investment expenditures to real economic growth and the number of patents to real economic growth has been determined in Model 1. In Model 2, one-way causality relationship is determined from exports to R&D investment expenditures, from patent number to exports and from industrial designs to exports. Finally, according to a more advanced test, Hatemi-J asymmetric causality analysis, a positive causality relationship from R&D investment expenditures and patent to real economic growth are determined in Model 1. In addition, in model 1, a one-way relationship has been determined between negative components from real economic growth to R&D investment expenditures and patent and negative components from industrial design to real economic growth. In Model 2, a bidirectional causality relationship between exports and R&D investment expenditures have been reached. In addition, a negative causality relationship between patent and industrial design variables towards export have been determined.
