Sait Faik Abasıyanık’ın “Hişt, Hişt!...” adlı öyküsünü incelediğimizbu makalede, metnin omurgasını oluşturan “hişt!” sesinin dış dünyadakiherhangi bir nesneden değil doğrudan doğruya yazarın içinden geldiğini;gündelik hayatında en temel ihtiyaçlarını bile karşılamakta güçlük çekenyazarın, öyküsünü açlık ve parasızlığın yol açtığı olumsuz düşüncelerletoplumsal hayatın dayattığı ahlâkî değerler arasında sıkışan bir insanın iççatışkılarını sergilemek üzere kurguladığını; dolayısıyla kendi hayat yolculuğununbir eğretilemesi olan bu öyküde, toplumsal hayatın bütün kepazeliklerinerağmen insanın ancak ahlâkî değerlere bağlı kaldığı sürece adamolabileceğini vurguladığını ve nihayet ne denli zorlanırsa zorlansın yaygınkanaatin aksine bu öyküden bir “yaşama sevinci” çıkarmanın mümkün olamayacağınıiddia ediyoruz.

In this article, we have analysed Sait Faik’s short story titled as “Hist, Hist!...” and detected the function and the true nature of the voice “hist” which underlie the story. Then we have determined that this voice does not come from anything in the outside world but directly from within the writer himself. And we have established that the writer, who had had difficuly in meeting the most basic needs of daily life, had written that story to lay bare the inner conflicts of a man who had been entrapped between the negative thoughts resulting from hunger and pennilessness and the moral values which the society imposes. We have concluded that it is impossible to deduct a “joy of living” from this short story which constitutes a metaphor of the writers own life and emphasizes that a man could be a responsible member of society only if he abides by the moral values despite all ignominies of life.
