Ankara okul bahçelerinin katılımcı yöntemle yenilenmesi

Okul bahçelerinin çocuk gelişimi ve sağlıklı yaşam üzerine etkilerinin irdelenmesi yanında çocuklarda çevre bilincinin geliştirilmesi çalışmanın temel amacını oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmada 5 okulda 1729 öğrenciyle anketler yapılarak, öğretmenlerin görüşleri alınmış ve bu doğrultuda okul bahçeleri yeniden tasarlanmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre teneffüs boyunca aktif olan çocukların daha sağlıklı oldukları görülmüştür. Kısa teneffüs süresi ve bahçelerin aktiviteler için yetersizliğine bağlı olarak bazı öğrenciler teneffüs vakitlerini okul içinde geçirmektedir. Öğrencilerin çoğunluğu, geniş bahçeli okulları beğenirken, peyzaj değerleri düşük okul bahçelerinden memnun olmamaktadır. Bu çalışmanın sonuçları, daha yeşil ve bakımlı okul bahçelerinin öğrencilerin çevreye bakışını ve oyun alışkanlıklarını değiştirerek fiziksel aktiviteyi destekleyeceğini, öğrencilerin katılımıyla sürdürülebilir okul ortamlarının oluşturulabileceğini göstermektedir.

Renovation of Ankara's schoolyards by participatory approaches

The aim of this study is to understand the health outcomes of schoolyards and their contribution to the environmental learning and awareness among children. A total of 1729 children were surveyed in five public schools; teachers and principals were interviewed and schoolyard renovation projects were developed. Results showed that active children during recess are healthier than passive children. Due to the short recess time and inadequacy of schoolyards for activities, some children prefer to be indoors during recess. Most children favour large schoolyards, on the other hand they are not attracted to low quality yards. It was concluded that greener, maintained and attractive schoolyards influence children’s view of nature, impact the frequency of the physical activity patterns and finally, contribute to the design of sustainable schoolyards with the participation of children.
