VIEWS ON STEM APPLICATIONS AND THEIR IMPACT ON SCIENTIFIC ATTITUDE AND SELF-EFFICACY BELIEF IN SCIENCE TEACHING
The aim of this study is to identify the prospective science teachers’ views on STEM applications and the impact of this application on their scientific attitude and self-efficacy belief in teaching science. The research is in the one group pre-test post-test design and the sample of the research is made of 44 prospective teachers studying at the second grade in a university. The research data were collected by “science education selfefficacy belief, scientific attitude scale and interview questions”. The analysis was conducted with SPSS 17.0 program and content analysis. The results show that the prospective science teachers’ self-efficacy belief didn’t demonstrate a considerable difference before and after the applications; however it is seen that the results regarding the scale’s “science teaching outcome expectations” sub-dimension differed considerably when the results are examined in terms of subdimensions. Also results show that the prospective science teachers’ scientific attitudes didn’t differ considerably before and after the applications; however there is a considerable difference in the scale’s “the structure of laws and theories” subdimension before and after the application. Prospective teachers found the applicability of STEM activities low but they thought that this application is beneficial to both the student and the teacher. In the light of the results of the research, it is suggested that STEM applications are expanded to different grade levels and that interdisciplinary research is achieved along with the integration of concept teaching.
