Considering the Gibson Paradox in Turkey in the Context of the Fisher Effect (1978-2019 Period)
In this study, the cause-effect relationship between inflation and interest, which is frequently discussed in Turkey, was investigated with the ARDL model using annual data for the 1978-2019 period. In addition, domestic savings are also included in the model in order to measure the sensitivity of savings to interest to be used in the evaluation of the results. According to the ARDL model results, it is concluded that interest and inflation affect each other positively in the long run, but interest has a greater effect on inflation. In addition, the Toda Yamamoto causality test was used for the cause-effect relationship between the mentioned variables. According to the results of this test, a bidirectional causality relationship was determined between inflation and interest.
