Effect of pre-lay moult on layer performance
This study was carried out to Investigate the postmoult laying performance of layer pullets that had been subjected to moulting during the growing period. The barley feeding and feed removal were used for moulting. While pullets İn groups of control and treatment I was fed on commercial feed and barley, the feed of the pullets in the group of treatment II was removed. The feeding with the barley and feed removal lasted one week. Age at 50% egg yield of the control, treatment I and treatment II were found 148, 155 and 157 days, respectively. Percentage (hen-housed) egg yield of the groups were calculated 71.79, 73.70 and 69.87, respectively. Total egg number (hen-day) for per hen of the groups were determined 296.73, 297.99 and 303.21, respectively. Average egg weights of the groups were found 61.45, 62.51 and 64.58 g, respectively. Total feed consumption (hen-day) for per hen were found 43.37, 38.62 and 40.53 kg, respectively. The hens in the control, treatment I and treatment II were consumed 146.31, 139.54 and 151.25 g feed for per eggs laid. The mortality rate of the groups were found 17.94,12.82 and 23.61%, respectively. It was concluded that the pre-lay moulting have no any adverse effect on layer performance and would be effective method for improving egg weight.
