Learning, Teaching and Information Perception of Science Teachers, and Their Refection in Class
Our education system has seen various ‘Education Reforms’ in certain periods of time for improvement. One of the most extensive of these reforms is the change made in 2004 in educational approaches, which has determined new roles for educators and students. The traditional teacher-based approaches, including the learning-teaching process in which educators are positioned at the center and the learner is passive, are replaced by student-based approaches, in which educators are able to structure information, the learning process and direct educational activities with the active participation of students. Though a student-based structure is applied in educational processes through this new approach, it is of great importance that teachers who will be applying this change on the ground, internalize this change and refect it in class practices. In today’s world, where science and technology are essentials, the educational belief systems of science teachers, who carry out educational-teaching activities in eforts to refect changes to the class atmosphere, are of extreme importance. In this study, the scales providing quantitative data have been collected, and data analysis has been done in an interpretative and inductive manner. This study, conducted with the participation of 113 science teachers, presents quantitative analysis findings on the level of teachers’ pedagogical and epistemological beliefs concerning learning-teaching, their change basedon various variables and, if any, the level and significance of correlational relationship between them. As a result of the quantitative data collection, efort has been made to reveal the point at which science teachers are in terms of educational belief, and how they refect this belief in the class atmosphere.
