Antenatal Perineal Masaj Perineal Travmaları Azaltır mı? Sistematik Derleme
Does Antenatal Perineal Massage Decrease Perineal Traumas? A Systematic Review
Aim: This study aims to examine the effects of perineal massage during pregnancy on perineal trauma during childbirth. Methods: In order to find research articles related to the topic, the databases "Pub-Med", "Science Direct", and "Wiley Interscience" were searched using the following keywords: “antenatal,” “prenatal,” “perineal massage” and “perineal trauma.” A total of 505 articles and 5 studies related to the context of this research are included in this study. Results: The studies indicated that antenatal perineal massage is effective for improving the rates of intact perineal and spontaneous vaginal deliveries, decreasing the rates of episiotomy, decreasing first and second degree lacerations, intervened deliveries, and reducing the use of epidurals, and shortening the second phase of delivery beginning from the thirty-second week by using pelvic floor muscle exercises. Conclusion: It was found that antenatal perineal massage has positive effects base on the assessment of all studies. It is recommended that antenatal perineal massage be implemented regularly beginning from thirty-second week of pregnancy in order to improve obstetric outcomes. It is thought that this systematic review could contribute to future studies conducted on this topic.
