Enterobacter sakazakıı and its importance in infant formula

Enterobacter sakazakii is an important cause of the infections such as meningitis, sepsis and necrotizing enterocolitis which is life threatening for babies. Premature and underweight babies and, the babies less than 28 days old are under the risk of E. sakazakii infection. Feeding with powdered infant formula has been found epidemiologically linked with it in various clinic cases. In this review, information about E. sakazakii 's biochemical features, contamination sources, its pathogenity the epidemics it caused, the methods of isolation and identification, its resistance against antibiotics, its behavior in infant formula have been given.
