Serum Copper, Zinc, Manganese and Cobalt Levels of Cows During the Transition Period

In this study, it was aimed to determine serum levels of copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), manganese (Mn) and cobalt (Co) in Mondofon cows (n=10) during the transition period. Blood samples were taken by venipuncture of the jugular vein on three weeks before parturition, parturition time and three after parturition, respectively. Blood serum samples were analysed for Cu, Zn, Mn and Co levels using Atomic absorption spectrometry. As a result, it was determined that Cu, Zn and Mn levels in transition cows decreased at the moment of parturition, after parturition, and serum levels of Co decreased after parturition. So, it was concluded that supporting cows with micro elements in postpartum is beneficial.
