Focus on Science Literacy: The Role of Writing and Speaking in the Construction of Scientific Knowledge

Yazma ve konuşma, tartışma bağlamında kullanılırsa bilimsel bilginin oluşturulmasında önemli bir rol oynar. Yazma ve konuşmanın, kavramsal bilgi, bilmek ile ilgili bilgi ve bilimin doğasını anlama alanları üzerinde etkisi vardır.Bu makalenin amacı, bilimsel tartışma, dilin kullanımı ve fen sınıflarında yazma konuları arasıdaki ilişkileri araştıran güncel yazılara değinmektir. Bunun yanında, Bilimsel Yazma Yolları, sunuma yönelik yazma, açıklayıcı yazma, tartışma, küçük ve büyük grup tartışmaları gibi güncel yöntem ve tekniklerden basedilmektedir. Bu teknikleri kullanan öğretmenler tekniklerin etkili olduklarını takdir etmekle birlikte gerek müfredatta ve gerekse kendi öğretim yaklaşımlarında köklü değişiklikler yapmak gerektiği konusundaki endişelerini dile getirmektedirler.

Writing and speaking plays a role in the construction of scientific knowledge when they are used in the context of inquiry. Writing and speaking have an impact in the areas of conceptual knowledge, metacognitive knowledge, and understanding the nature of science. Consequently, this paper presents the current research that explores the relationships among inquiry in science, and the use of language, and writing in the science classroom. In addition, effective classroom pedagogy is presented. The pedagogies include the Science Writing Heuristic, expository writing, expressive writing, debate, and whole class and small group discussion. Teachers who have used these techniques acknowledge their effectiveness but are concerned that they will have to make radical changes in the way they teach and the curriculum will have to undergo extensive modification.
