The effect of seaweed extract treatments on germination of leek seeds under salinity

This study was conducted to determine the effect of seaweed extract treatments on seed germination of leek under salt stress. The seeds of İnegöl 92 and Kalem cultivars were maintained in 1:250, 1:500 and 1:1000 concentrations of seaweed extract, as well as in H2O for 24 hours. Then, the seeds were put in the petri dishes containing five different NaCl concentrations (0, 50, 75,100 and 125 mM). Petri dishes were placed randomly in an incubator at 20°C for 14 days. In the study, total germination percentage and germination rate index were determined. According to the results, seaweed extract and H2O treatments increased significantly both germination percentage and gemnination rate index compared with control.
