Liberal Demokratik Toplumda Vatandaşlık ve Eğitim

Liberal demokratik toplumun birlik ve istikrarı için vatandaşlardan bir takım erdemler göstermeleri beklenir. Vatandaşlara bu erdemlerin kazandırılmasında kamusal egitim sistemi çok önemli bir roloynar. İyi, sorumlu ve bilinçli vatandaşlar yetiştirmek hem kamusal egitim sisteminin temel işlevlerinden birisidir, hem de kamusal eğitim sisteminin varlığının ve eğitimin zorunlu olmasını haklı kılan önemli sebeplerden birisidir. Bu çalışmada vatandaşlık eğitiminde kamusal eğitim sisteminin rolü tartışılıyor. Liberal demokratik toplumda vatandaşlığın nasıl anlaşılması gerektigi ve ne gibi nitelik ve erdemler gerektirdigi ortaya konduktan sonra, vatandaşlık eğitiminde kamusal eğitim sisteminin niçin ve nasil rol oynaması gerektiği irdeleniyor.

Citizenship in Liberal Democratic Society and Education

Citizens are expected to show some virtues for the maintenance of the unity and stability of liberal democratic society. Public education system plays a very important role in acquirin~ citizenship virtues by citizens. To create good, responsible and conscious citizens is both one of the basic functions of public education system and one of the important reasons that justifies having a public education system and making education mandatory. This paper discusses the role of public education system in citizenship education. After considering how citizenship should be understood in modem liberal democratic society and what sort of qualities and virtues it requires, the paper explores whyand how public education system should play a role in citizenship education.
