Su Kenarında Sonsuzluk: Patara Liman Nekropolis'i Işığında Antik Limanlar ve Mezarlar İlişkisi Üzerine

Son yıllarda antik liman araştırmaları ciddi bir ivme kazanmış durumda. Bunda özellikle jeofizik, jeoarkeoloji gibi doğa bilimleri metotlarının yaygın bir şekilde kullanımının rolü yadsınamaz. Zira, bir çoğu günümüzde bir bataklığa dönüşmüş ya da modern yapılar altında gömülü haldeki antik limanlar, alan arkeolojisinin geleneksel yöntemleriyle yapılabilecek bir çalışmayı ya imkansız kılmakta ya da maliyetleri çok yukarılara çekmekteydi. İşte biraz önce andığımız doğa bilimleri metotları, son zamanlarda kaydettikleri önemli gelişmelerle de beraber, söz konusu araştırmaları olanaklı hale getirmekteler. Bu arada limanlar, represantasyon (temsiliyet) mekanları olarak da urbanistik araştırmalarının nesnesi haline gelmekteler. Aşağıdaki makale, tam da bu bağlamda, antikçağda mezar/nekropol-liman ilişkisi üzerine bir gözlemi sunmak istemektedir

Eternity at the Waterfront: Evidence from the Harbour Necropolis of Patara Concerning the Relationship Between Ancient Harbours and Tombs

In recent years studies concerning ancient harbours have gained momentum and it seems evident the intensive use of natural sciences' methods have a key role in this respect. In the past, an investigation of such installations through the conventional methods of field archaeology were either impossible or very expensive, due to the fact that many ancient harbours today are either in a swampy inaccessible state or are buried beneath modern buildings. The above mentioned scientific methods allow us to carry out such investigations and in consequence these ancient harbours have become a focus of archaeological research as a space of representation. The present article presents an observation concerning the relationship between the tomb/necropolis and the ancient harbour
