Kaunos Demeter Kutsal Alanı: Seramik Buluntular

Kaunos’daki Demeter Kutsal Alanı bir teras üzerine konumlanmıştır. Yapılan araştırmalarda buradahiçbir dönemde bir tapınak inşa edilmediği ve törenlerin açık havada gerçekleştirildiği tespit edilmiştir.Bir kaya bloğu, iki ocak ve birkaç kanal kutsal alanın özünü oluşturmaktadır. Hekatomnoslar Dönemi ilebirlikte kült alanında ve uygulamalarında önemli değişiklikler olmuştur. Kaya bloğu ve ocaklar işlevlerinikaybetmiş, kanallar ise kullanılmaya devam etmiş olmalıdır. Teras üzerindeki araştırmalarda Geç ArkaikDönem’den Hellenistik Dönem içlerine kadar buluntular ele geçmiştir. Önemli buluntu grupları olarakterrakottalar, hydrialar, khytralar, kandiller ve kernoslar sayılabilir. Buluntuların büyük çoğunluğuHekatomnoslar Dönemi’ne aittir. Erken Hıristiyanlık Dönemi’nde bu alana Kaunos’un en erken ve enbüyük kilisesi inşa edilmiştir.

Caunus’ Demeter Sancuary: Ceramic Finds

The Demeter Sanctuary in Caunus located in a terrace at Küçükkale. The researches have shown here that on this terrace a temple was never built. The sanctuary existed of a rocky outcrop, two herds and some canals. With the time of the Hekatomnid this boulder and herds seem to have lost her functions, although the canals were used furthermore. On this terrace were consecrated from Archaic up to the Hellenistic period presents, above all terracotta, hydras, chythrai, lamps and cernoi which are dated predominantly in the time of the Hekatomniden. In Early Christian Periods on top of the sanctuary Caunus earliest and biggest church were constructed.
