Blended learning environments and suggesstions for blended learning design

The number of studies in blended learning field, which has gained importance by beingreinterpreted with the effect of the developments in information and communicationtechnologies, has been increasing recently. There have been many diverse approaches inthese studies on the point of defining blended learning and on the point of whichcomponents of blended learning environments need blending and how they are blended. The aim of this study is to examine national and international studies in blended learningin higher education and to make suggestions about necessary components for designing aneffective blended learning environment. Within this framework the studies on blendedlearning, which were accessible online, were examined from the perspectives of researchmethods that were used, preferred e-learning environments and/or e-learning methods, preferred face to face learning/teaching strategies and the methods used in the evaluation of blended learning. In the light of the findings it is seen that blended learning should beregarded as a teaching design approach in order to create effectively blended learningenvironments and it is hoped that the suggestions made will be lodestar in formingblended learning models for diverse learning fields.
