THE IMPACT OF QUANTUM LEADERSHIP BEHAVIOURS OF SCHOOL PRINCIPALS ON ORGANIZATIONAL INTELLIGENCE LEVEL

The current research is a descriptive study which aims to determine the impact of quantum leadership behaviours of school principals on the organizational intellegence level. The research was conducted using quantitative research methods in the relational screening model. The target population of the study consists of 2219 teachers who teach at upper-secondary schools located in the province of Zonguldak and the districts of it, Alaplı, Caycuma, Devrek, Eregli, Gokcebey, Kilimli and Kozlu in the academic year 2015/2016. 600 teachers have been included in the sampling size. Two scales, ‘’The Quantum Leadership Behaviours of School Principals’’ which is developed by Erçetin, Potas, Açıkalın, Turan and Bisaso (2016) and ‘Multi-Dimensional Organizational Intelligence’’ which is developed in their previous studies (2001,2004,2007,2009,2010) and updated and given permission to use by Erçetin, Potas, and Açıkalın for this thesis in 2015 have been used in order to gather data. In order to test the difference of variables in the research, Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis tests were used. Levene’s test was also used for the homogeneity. Moreover, regression analysis, in which organizational intelligence level was taken as dependent variable, was used in order to determine the predictivity level of quantum leadership behaviours on organizational intelligence level. According to the findings of the study, it is concluded that school principals mostly exhibit quantum leadership behaviours based on the perceptions of teachers’ perceptions. Teachers who participated the research think that their schools have an high organizatioal level. Lastly, it has been concluded that school principals’ quantum leadership behaviors are a significant predictor of organizational intelligence. In the new millennium, organizations have become more and more of an area of interaction that is experiencing more simultaneous and multifaceted events, phenomena or problems together. It is observed that this interaction with the inner and outer perimeter is intensive, complicated and unpredictable. At the heart of these discussions, the key notions such as discontinuity, uncertainty, and probability are included in the quantum theory which draws attention to the living systems, despite the classical physics' lifestyle which is reminiscent of the machine. Erçetin (2000) explores the quantum leadership paradigm in four dimensions comparing it to classical physics. According to Erçetin's classification, the first dimension of the quantum leadership paradigm is the assumption that leadership based on the part-wave dilemma of the quantum physics is an area of interaction in the leader-follower dilemma. Erçetin (2000) has devised the quantum physics assumption of uncertainties and probabilities, assuming the quantum leadership paradigm, leadership unstructured and unpredictable. Another of Ercetin (2000) 's quantum leadership assumptions is the discontinuity in the formation of leadership. The final assumption about quantum leadership is that the effect of leadership is based on interaction. The idea that organizations have an intelligence, like people, is a controversial issue that has been debated for almost a quarter of a century. Erçetin (2001, p. 58) defines organizational intelligence as the total and use of the skills that organization have in order to survive. The conceptual and theoretical foundations of the research are constituted by Prof. Dr. Şefika Şule Erçetin's quantum leadership paradigm and the operational dimensions of the Multidimensional Organizational Intelligence Scale developed by Erçetin, Potas and Açıkalın in their previous work and lastly updated in 2015 for this thesis. Purpose and Importance of The Study The current research is aims to determine the impact of quantum leadership behaviours of school principals on the organizational intellegence level according to the perceptions of teachers. It can be argued that this research includes new developments in quantum leadership and organizational intelligence and current research results. As a result of this research, it is expected that the results of the research will provide contributions towards further research and at the same time present different perspectives to policy makers and field experts. Method The study is a descriptive study and designed with correlational survey models. The target population of the study consists of 2219 teachers who teach at upper-secondary schools located in the province of Zonguldak and the districts of it, Alaplı, Caycuma, Devrek, Eregli, Gökçebey, Kilimli and Kozlu in the academic year 2015/2016. 600 teachers have been included in the sampling size. Two scales, ‘’The Quantum Leadership Behaviours of School Principals’’ which is developed by Erçetin, Potas, Açıkalın, Turan and Bisaso (2016) and ‘Multi-Dimensional Organizational Intelligence’’ which is developed in their previous studies (2001, 2004, 2007, 2009, 2010) and updated by Erçetin, Potas, and Açıkalın for this thesis in 2015 have been used in order to gather data. Necessary permits have been taken so as to use the scales. Since the construct validity was tested and proved hypotheticly beforehand, a pre-testing was held with the participation of 200 teachers who were not included in the sampling. Regarding the data which were obtained confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted. The goodness of fit indexes generated by CFA verified the items of scales. The Cronbach’s Alpha reliability coefficients and item total correlations were calculated for each item and the total score of the scale. As a result, it was ensured that the scales and their sub dimensions were reliable and valid. In order to determine the perception of teachers about the quantum leadership behaviours of principals and the organizational intelligence level of their current schools, arithmetical mean and standard deviation were used. Then, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was conducted to find out whether the socres of variables in their groups were distributed normally or not in each dimensions of QLBSP and MOI scales. Non parametric methods were used for the items which are not distributed normally. In non parametric tests, Mann Whitney U was used to test the difference variable between two categories, Kruskal Wallis was used to test the difference of variable among more than two categories. Parametric test were used for normally distributed ones. Levene’s test was also used for the homogeneity. Moreover, regression analysis, in which organizational intelligence level was taken as dependent variable, was used in order to determine the predictivity level of quantum leadership behaviours on organizational intelligence level. Results and Recommendations According to the findings of the study, it is concluded that school principals mostly exhibit quantum leadership behaviours based on the perceptions of teachers’ perceptions. It is understood that the perceptions of teachers do not have significant difference statistically according to gender, subject field and experience of teachers. On the other hand, it is discovered that the perceptions of teahcers about the quantum leadership behaviours of principals are differentiated significantly. Teacher who have bacholars degree have more positive perceptions than the ones who have masters and doctoral degrees. The perception of teachers about their current schools’ level of organizational intelligence level is high. It is also seen that there is not a statistically significant difference in the perceptions of teachers about their current school organizational intelligence level according to their gender, subject matter field and experience. Lastly, it has been concluded that quantum leadership behaviours of principals significantly affect the organizational intelligence level. In other words, it can be said that school principals’ quantum leadership behaviors are a significant predictor of organizational intelligence. In this study, an analysis was made to determine the effects of quantum leadership behaviors on organizational intelligence. On the other hand, it should be thought that the level of organizational intelligence can increase quantum leadership behaviors and affect other variables together. For this reason, it is suggested to carry out researches that model quantum leadership behaviors and organizational intelligence with an approach that considers the issue of change together
