Çağdaş Tiyatroda Tek Perdeli Oyunlar adlı eser, önsöz hariç üç bölümden meydana gelmektedir. Birinci bölüm, öğretmen ve öğrencilere yol gösterici olması amacıyla yazılmış tanıtım niteliğinde bir giriş bölümüdür. İkinci bölüm, tek perdeli oyun metinlerine ayrılmıştır. Bu bölümde on sekiz yazara ait tek perdeli oyun metinlerine yer verilmiştir. Bu yazarlar ve oyunları şöyle sıralanmaktadır: Sir James M. Birinci bibliyografya, tek perdeli oyun koleksiyonlarına yönelik; ikincisi, tek perdeli oyun listelerine yönelik; üçüncüsü, tek perdeli oyun hakkında gönderimde bulunmaya yönelik; dördüncüsü ise oyunların nasıl oluşturulduğuna yöneliktir. Çalışmanın bundan sonraki bölümünde eserin giriş bölümünün İngilizceden Türkçeye çevirisi yer almaktadır. Bu giriş bölümünde, özel bir dramatik tür olarak değerlendirilen tek perdeli oyunların incelenmesinde kullanılabilecek yeni bir yaklaşım önerisinde bulunulmuş ve tek perdeli oyunların dramatik çözümlenmesi ile temel yapılanışı, seçilen on sekiz eserden yeri geldikçe örnekler de verilerek şu iki ana başlık altında ele alınıp değerlendirilmiştir: tek perdeli oyunların konusu ve tek perdeli oyunların tekniği [karakter, olay örgüsü (başlangıç/ giriş, orta bölüm/ gelişme ve sonuç), diyalog, sahne işçiliği ve sahne yönetimi]

This collection of one-act plays appears because of an increasingly large demand for such a volume. The plays have been selected and the Introduction prepared to meet the need of the student or teacher who desires to acquaint himself with the one-act play as a specific dramatic form. The plays included have been selected with this need in mind. Accordingly, emphasis has been placed upon the wholesome and uplifting rather than upon the sordid and the ultra-realistic. The unduly sentimental, the strikingly melodramatic, and the play of questionable moral problems, has been consciously avoided. Comedies, tragedies, farces, and melodramas have been included; but the chief concern has been that each play should be good dramatic art. They are: Sir James M.
