Can We Take A Selfie? Smart Selfie Application in Sports Facilities

The sportscape/sports environment, referred to as the physical environment of a stadium or sports facility may play a role in the intents of fans to participate in sports events. Sports environment is defined on the basis of the concept of service environment and includes accessibility, aesthetics, seating comfort, electronic equipment/screens and facility cleanliness of the sports facility. Since the beginning of the 21st century, especially with the development of technology, the physical environment of sports facilities and, normally, their sports environment are also changed. For example, today's smart sports facilities have huge scoreboards providing so much information on match score, match statistics, match line-ups and position replays. Another example is that giant images of athletes can be projected onto the top of sports facilities using digital technologies. In short, since the beginning of the 21st century, especially with the development of technology, the physical environment of sports facilities and, normally, their sports environment are also changed. In recent years, the use of digital media devices in sports facilities has been changing both the atmosphere and the environment of sports facilities. That is why sports organizations, teams and leagues are looking for ways to change the atmosphere of sports facilities and offer new entertainment tools to their consumers. In this context, this study aims to examine the effects of the Smart Selfie Platform on audiences as a new sports entertainment tool in sports facilities. The survey was conducted with 18 participants by using the interview, which is one of the qualitative research methods. Content analysis technique was used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the survey, participant views on the effects of the Smart Selfie Platform were analyzed within the themes of the “Smart Selfie Platform Experience”, “Selfie Use” and “Facility Atmosphere”.
