Genç erişkin erkekler arasında nikotin bağımlılığı, sigara içme sıklığı ve bunları etkileyen faktörler

Sigara tüm dünyada korunulabilir hastalıklar arasında mortalitesi ve morbiditesi en yüksek olan sağlık riskidir. Askerlik dönemi sigaraya başlamak açısından riskli bir dönem olmanın yanında toplumsal sigara karşıtı eğitimler içinde iyi bir fırsattır. Bu yönüyle askerlik hizmetini yapan kişilerin sigara içme davranışlarının bilinmesi önemlidir. Bu çalışma kesitsel bir araştırma olarak planlanmış, 2002 yılında, Etimesgut Zırhlı Birlikler Okulu ve Eğitim Merkez K.lığında hizmetini yapmakta olan 1950 kişiden, basit rasgele örnekleme yöntemi ile seçilen 455 kişide yapılmıştır. Araştırmaya katılanların %53,8’i halen sigara içmekte olduğunu, % 9,9’’u “ara sıra” sigara içtiğini bildirmiştir. Nikotin bağımlılığı belirtilerinin sıklığı % 16,2 olarak bulunmuştur. Sigara içme davranışının erbaş ve erlerde oldukça yüksek olduğu ve bu kişilerin önemli bir kısmında nikotin bağımlılığı belirtilerinin bulunduğu görülmüştür. Askerlik hizmeti süresince sigaranın zararları konulu eğitimlere ve sigarayı bıraktırma çalışmalarına ihtiyaç olduğu düşünülmektedir.
