Surface roughness measurement methods and their comparison

Surface roughness of the mechanical parts that are manufactured by chip removal is the result of material structure, machining parameters and method selected. In the various researches, the correct measurement of surface roughness and the selection of the best surface roughness measurement method are accepted as a very important decision for the production method. In this study, methods used today and their technical properties for the measurement and control of the surface roughness are summarized. It is aimed that this paper makes a guidence for the researchers who wants to measure surface roughness, and is a source for appropriate selection of surface roughness measurement method.
