Öz: Saadet Hasan Mantu, Hindistan'ın bölünmesinden önce  doğmuş Urdu diliyle yazan en ünlü öykü yazarlarındandır. Batı edebiyatından yaptığı çevirilerle edebî hayatı başlamış, İlerici Edebiyat Akımından etkilenmiştir. Öykülerinde Hindistan’ın bölünmesi sonucu ortaya çıkan sorunları sosyal, toplumsal ve psikolojik yönlerden ele almıştır. Toplum yapısına aykırı olarak müstehcenliğe de öykülerinde yer verdiği için eleştirilmiş, hakkında pek çok adli dava açılmıştır. Bölünmenin ardından Lahor’daki bir akıl hastanesinde yaşananları anlattığı “Toba Tek Singh” adlı öyküsü bölünmenin etkilerini ve akabinde oluşan kimlik sorununu tüm yönleriyle anlatmaktadır. He has been critisized for including obcenity that is against the social moral structure and faced lots of lawsuits.
