The Effect of Art Self-Concept on Physical Symptoms Among University Students

The present study was investigated the effect of art self-concept on physical symptoms among university students in terms of gender. Data were gathered from 415 (233 male, 162 female, 20 indicated no gender) volunteer students from Middle East Technical University Preparatory School. Art Self-Concept Scale (ASCS) and Physical Symptom Checklist (PSC) were administered to the sample. A median split technique was utilized to categorize those students who had higher art self-concept and lower art self-concept. Then, a 2 (art self-concept) X 2 (gender) univariate ANOVA was employed to the physical symptom scores of the participants. In addition Pearson Product Correlation coefficient between ASCS and PSC scores was calculated. Results indicated no significant effect of art self-concept on physical symptoms. Results also indicated no significant differences between the art self-concept scores of males and females, however, females reported significantly higher physical symptoms then males.
