Benign Schwannoma of the Buccal Region

Schwannomas are usually benign, encapsulated tumors of neuroectodermal origin. They are seen to be only 1% in theoral cavity and most frequently in tongue. Schwannoma of the buccal region is rare among all head and neck cancerin the literature. Up to date, it was reported only one case. 42 years old man admitted to our clinic growing painlessmass in the buccal region for about one month. There was approximately 3x2 cm semi fixed painless mass locatedbetween buccal mucosa and cheek skin of the leaning back to retro molar trigona and mandible ramus in ENT ex- amination. Differential diagnosis for the evaluation of the mass could not be performed with parotid ultrasound, MRI(magnetic resonance imaging) and the fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC).The mass was excised totally on thetrans-oral route under general anesthesia. The pathology of specimen was reported as schwannoma of buccal region
