Evaluation of Chrom ID MRSA Agar In Determining Methicillin Resistance of Staphylococcus aureus Species Isolated From Various Clinical Specimens

Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the sensitivity and specifity of Chrom ID MRSA agar in 80 methicillinresistance Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and 40 methicillin susceptible Staphylococcus aureus isolated from inpa- tients with nosocomial infection.Material and Methods: Methicillin resistance in Staphylococcus aureus strains was determined by cephoxitin discdiffusion method and VITEC 2 automathized system. Results: The sensitivity and specifity of Chrom ID MRSA agar at 12th, 24th, 48 th and 72 th hours were detected as70%, 60%; 85%, 75%; 92.5%, 80%, respectively. When incubation period of Chrom ID MRSA agar was prolonged up to 48 hours, sensitivity abd specifity were in- creased wheras when it was prolonged more than 48 hours sensitivity and specifity were not affected. Conclusion: As a results , chromogenic agar such as Chrom ID MRSA agar were not advantages than conventionalmethods because it is more expencive although it give results earlier up to 12-24 hours.
