ODTÜ İktisat Bölümü: Yarım yüzyılı aşan bir süreden bazı gözlemler

Amerikan üniversite modeline benzer bir yapıyla kurulan Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi’nin İktisat Bölümü, özgün bir tarihçeye sahiptir. 1960’lardan itibaren Türkiye’deki iktisat öğretimini yapı, biçim ve içerik yönünden önemli ölçüde etkilemiştir. Yazı, bu etkileri, yazarın da birebir tanıklığıyla anlatmaya çalışmaktadır.

METU Department of Economics: Some observations from half a century

METU’s Department of Economics has a very interesting history. Established in 1959 with the aim of creating an academic institution similar to the American model, it has, from the very beginning deeply influenced the structure, content and methodology of teaching economics in Turkey. The author, as a member of the founding team of the department, has been a member of its faculty for more than forty years and witnessed its progress through decades. This study lists some pioneering steps taken and traditions established in the department in relation to teaching, research, recruitment and governance.
