Effect of Selection Applied in the Direction of High Live Weight on Growth Parameters in Japanese Quails

In this study, to determine the effects of selection, applied 4 generations for fourth week high live weight on Japanese quails, on live weight averages, Gompertz growth model parameter values and point of inflection age and weight were aimed. Furthermore, to obtain the effect of sex factor and to reveal the correlations between parameters were aimed. The effects of line and sex factors were found significant for live weight values (P<0.05). The differences revealed between days 21 and 28 in favor of females have been continued throughout the experiment. Gompertz model parameter values, β0, β1 and β2 were calculated 210.7, 3.66, and 0.084 for control (K) line and were 236.47, 3.44, and 0.083 for selection line (YCA), respectively. Parameters for female and male quails were estimated 243.4, 3.48, 0.076 and 203.77, 3.62, 0.091. The phenotypic correlations between parameters in β0-β1, β0-β2, β1-β2 order were calculated -0.52, -0.90, 0.78 for females, -0.52, -0.86, 0.81 for males, -0.53, -0.88, 0.80 for control line and -0.51, -0.88, 0.79 for YCA line. Point of inflection age obtained 15.75 and 15.24th day in K and YCA line, 16.79 and 14.20 day for females and males. Weights at these points are also 77.51, 86.99, 89.54, 74.96 g, respectively.
