İNGİLİZ ERKEN DÖNEM ŞİÎLİK ÇALIŞMALARI VE THOMAS HERBERT ÖRNEĞİ

İngilizler, Oryantalizm alanında önemli çalışmalar ortaya koymuşlardır. Geçmişte İngilizler ilkdönemlerinden itibaren İslamiyet hususunda bilgi birikimleri üst seviyelere ulaştığı halde, Şiîlikalanındaki çalışmalar daha geç tarihlerde ortaya çıkmıştır. İngilizlerin Şiîlik alanında çalışmalarınınhayata geçmesiyle ilginç hususiyetler kendini göstermiştir. Bilgi-siyaset, siyaset-bilgi denklemleriİngilizlerin Orta Doğu coğrafyasındaki etki ve icraatlarında değişmeyen hareket noktası olmuştur.Safevîler döneminden başlayarak, Dünya savaşları sürecinde saha hâkimiyetlerinin arka planındayüksek bilgi birikimi kendini göstermiştir. Ortadoğu bugün bile bu etkiden hala kurtulamamıştır.Şiîliğin Safevîler döneminden itibaren bilgisel tasvirini kapsamlı ve ayrıntılı bir şekilde ele almışlardır.Böylece Batı dünyasının Şiîlik algısının oluşması hususunda belirleyici rolü üstlenmişlerdir.Çalışmamızın ana ekseni olan İngiliz erken dönem Şiîlik çalışmalarının genelinde göze çarpan hususlarınaklettikten sonra bu alanda zirve noktaya ulaşmış İngiliz Araştırmacı Thomas Herbert’i incelemeyeçalıştık. Herbert, dönemin sokakta, günlük hayatta yaşanan Şîa düşüncesini, hayatını bizzat kendigözlemlerinden aktarması bakımından oldukça önemlidir. Bize aktarmış olduğu bazı adetler vedavranışlar bugün mevcut olmaması bakımından tarihi belge niteliğindedir.

EARLY BRİTİSH STUDİES OF SHİİSM: THOMAS HERBERT EXAMPLE

The English have made important studies in the field of Orientalism. In the past, the English had reached higher levels of knowledge about Islam from the earliest times, while the Shiite studies were included in later work. The fact that the British were working in the field of Shi'ism had shown some interesting characteristics. Knowledge-politics, politics-knowledge equations have been an unchanging point for British influence and actions in the Middle East geography. Beginning from the Safavid period, in the background of the field wars in the course of the World Wars, a high level of knowledge has shown itself. Even today, the Middle East is still under this influence. . We have tried to examine the British researcher Thomas Herbert, who has reached the summit point of this field, after presenting the spectacular features of the British early Shiism studies. . Herbert is quite unique in terms of the Shia thought of the time, the life on the street and his own observations. Some traditions and behaviors that we have transmitted to us are historical documents in the sense that they do not exist today.
