Determination of Reference Intervals for Hematological Parameters in Cultured Diamond Sturgeon (Acipenser gueldenstaedtii)
Diamond sturgeon (Acipenser gueldenstaedtii), one of the native species in the Black Sea basin, is economically an important species with its meat quality and caviar as well as ecological importance.
The aim of this study is to determine the reference ranges of hematological parameters in healthy Danube sturgeon juvenile and adult individuals in aquaculture environment. In the study, hematological parameters were measured by an automatic blood count device. Reference ranges were determined for leukocyte (WBC), lymphocyte (LYM), granulocytes (Gran), monocytes (MID), hematocrit (HCT), hemoglobin (HGB), red blood cell (RBC), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) values as hematological indicators.
According to the data obtained in the study, mean WBC, LYM, MID, GRAN, MCV, MCH and MCHC values in the sturgeon showed a significant difference depending on age. However, no significant difference was detected between RBC, HGB and HCT values
