Malassezia pachydermatis memeliler ve kanatlılardan izole edilmiştir. Etken köpeklerde fırsatçı patojen olup, otitis externa ve seboreik dermatitis'e neden olmaktadır. Bu köpeklerde genellikle hipersensitivite, immünosupresyon, deride keratinizasyon ve epidermal displazı görülmesi dikkat çekicidir. Yazımızda M. pachydermatis'in köpeklerdeki otitis externa ve seboreik dermatitis olgularındaki durumu, klinik ve mikrobiyolojik önemi, tanısı ve immünolojisi hakkında bilgiler verilmiştir.

Malassezia pachydermatis has been isolated from the mammals and birds. The agent is an opportunistic pathogen in dogs and has been found in cases of otitis externa and seborrhoeic dermatitis. It is interesting that hypersensitivity, immunosuppression, keratinization in the skin and epidermal displazi are usually seen in diseased dogs. In this review, the importance of M. pachydermatis in cases of seborrhoeic dermatitis and otitis externa in dogs, clinical and microbiological importance, its diagnosis and immunity are summarized.
